Trader Joe’s: New Items I’ve Tried

Decided to create a new monthly series all about new items I’ve tried from Trader Joe’s. These items may not necessarily be new to Trader Joe’s but new to me. I’m trying to push myself to step outside my own box, to get out of my own way. The goal is to publish it the first Friday of every month. Here goes!

Try this one with coffee

Stroopwafel, Dutch Caramel Waffle Cookies:

These things are dangerous! I’ve bought 3 tins and it’s not good. No, not good as in they taste horrible (obviously since I’ve bought 3 tins) but not good because they are so good and you can’t eat just one.

When I saw the ice cream sandwiches in the Fearless Flyer I couldn’t wait until my next Trader Joe’s visit. But when I saw that the ice cream was salted caramel (yes, I’m one of the few that’s not a fan of salty and sweet) my elation quickly turned sour. That’s when I looked above the Salted Caramel Stroopwafel Sandwiches and saw these beautiful blue Dutch Stroopwafel Tin. There’s a thin layer of caramel between two slightly sweet crispy but chewy waffles. The tin says to put the Stroopwafel on top of a hot drink. I don’t drink too many hot things so I still haven’t tried it this way.

When I was buying my second tin I was talking to the person checking me out. I told her I wished they would run out of Stroopwafels but she said she doubts that will happen anytime soon. She also said one of their regular items is a smaller version that comes in a bag but since these are a holiday treat that item has been pushed back. Just try it! Trust me. Hopefully Trader Joe’s will still have some in your location but if you can’t find them, look for the smaller version.

Maybe a good alternative

I saw these “Butter Waffle Cookies”. I feel like it’s similar just without the caramel. And if that’s the case you can make your own Stroopwafel. I may buy these for next month’s edition of my new Trader Joe’s items and let you know how it tastes.

Grab some cheese

The “Fruit & Nut (& Other Stuff) Crisps” is another holiday item I believe but there’s plenty at my location. The odd thing about it is it’s basically a toasted, crispy slice of fruit cake. I don’t like fruit cake but I really like this. I ate them with my own apple cinnamon goat cheese. No, Trader Joe’s doesn’t sell the apple cinnamon goat cheese anymore but they do sell a fig and a cranberry cheese which is a similar concept. I just figured out a way to make the apple myself. I’ll share the recipe soon.

Sweet refreshing treat

The “Organic Cold Pressed Fuji Apple Spiced Cider with Cinnamon & Clove” is another new favorite of mine. I realize this will likely disappear again until November but until then I’ll be happy to buy one and sip on it for a few days. I can’t drink it in one sitting because it’s a bit much.

Lunch is served!

Last but not least we have the “Legume & Spinach Salad Palette”. This salad is full of good stuff: green lentils, garbanzo beans, roasted cauliflower, spinach, apples and pecans. It also comes with a red wine shallot vinaigrette. Add roasted turkey on top and you’ve got a meal that will keep you full for a while.

What are your Trader Joe’s favorites? I’d really like to check them out. You can find my Trader Joe’s basics here. I buy these same items each time I go in Trader’s Joe’s.
