Trader Joe’s Haul

Trader Joe's Haul

I love seeing people’s posts on Instagram or on their blogs about what they bought from Trader Joe’s.   It always gives me inspiration and motivation to try something new.   I’ve told you about my top 5 TJ’s finds but I figured I’d tell you about other finds and then later do a post about what I cooked up with these goodies.

Here goes!

Oh wait!  This will not be one of those super healthy posts.   I try to be health conscious but I also allow myself to partake of things that aren’t that healthy.   It has taken me a long time to get to the point where I don’t beat myself up about eating most of the things you see here.

OK….let’s go!

Hot & Sweet Jalapeno’s:   I love all things spicy so I’ll add these to just about anything

Spicy Hummus:  Again, I love all things spicy so the other hummus flavors just don’t speak to me.  Chickpeas don’t taste like much but the when you add the spice, it’s delish.

Pesto:   Any reason to eat a warm toasty bread

Balela:   Lunch! See the other pic that shows you all ingredients.  I thought it was important to include this one because had never heard of balela until now. I know I’m not alone.

Tomato-less corn salsa:   This stuff is so good the first time I got it my friends and I had some in the Trader Joe’s parking lot.

Simpler Wines:  I’ve never tried these until now.  I saw online that these Simpler Wines from Italy made their debut some time last year.   The 4-pack is only $4.99 so it’s not gonna be the best wine ever tasted but they are tasty.   If I had to rank them in order of how much I like them it would be:   white, peach, rose’.   I’m not a rose’ fan.   I just can’t!  The white is on the drier side.   Peach smells like one of my favorite candies, peach o-rings.   I don’t eat candy often at all but put some gummy peach o-rings in front of me and the package will be gone in no time.

These wines are inexpensive but have you ever tried a wine club?  It’s totally worth it!

Sweet Chile Sauce:  This sauce goes perfectly with lumpia.   This sauce will last me awhile.

Thai Red Curry Sauce:   Add some coconut milk to this and you’ve got take-out Thai at-home.

General Tso’s Sauce:  Who doesn’t love General Tso’s chicken!   FYI:  This sauce doesn’t have the kick you may be used to from any other General Tso’s.  I believe it’s more on the sweeter side. (Very simple recipe coming next week)

Chili Lime seasoning:   Put this on shrimp with a squeeze of lime, add some veggies and cauliflower rice and you’ve got a meal. (Recipe using this sauce coming next week)

Two of these items are included in my post of Top 5 items from Trader Joe’s.

Brown rice:   I try to steer clear of white bread, white rice, tortillas etc.   You pop this in the microwave for about 5 minutes and add it to any dish that calls for rice.

Cauliflower rice:   If I’m feeling really healthy I ditch the brown rice and pickup the cauliflower rice.  Never tried cauliflower rice?   Do it!   You won’t mix the extra that comes along with “real” rice. (Recipe using this rice coming next week)

Trader Joe's Haul

Oatmeal raisin cookies:   My fave cookie, hands down.

Deep dish chocolate chip cookie:   I’m hoping this is good.   I have no idea when I’ll eat it but I’m dreaming it’s as tasty as a BJ’s Pizookie, or my old favorite Chili’s Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie or just a really good chocolate chip cookie.   I’ll take that!

French vanilla ice cream:   The ice cream at Trader Joe’s is dense.   It’s not full of air and therefore it’s not a waste of money.  The sweet cream vanilla taste is full.   You won’t eat as much because they didn’t skimp on the ingredients.

Cold brew latte bars:  I eat these as a snack at night when I need something sweet.   However, it’s not that sweet.   These bars have a hint of a caramel taste with coffee.  Each bar is only 40 calories.   Yep!  40 calories.

1,000 day aged gouda cheese:  The salt crystals in this cheese makes life better.  Pair this cheese with a cabernet sauvignon.   If you have’t seen my interview with Cooper’s Hawk Master Sommelier, check it out here.   She gives tips about wine pairing.  This cheese is sold by weight.  I don’t buy it often but cheese is one of the top 5 must-haves to purchase at Trader Joe’s.

Cacao powder:   I use this on top of smoothie bowls

Pita Bite Crackers:   I use these to scoop up that spicy hummus.

Kettle Corn:   This is the smaller bag of kettle corn and it comes as a package of 6.   That entire package will last me a couple of months.

Fruit:   I didn’t need much fruit this time around so I only picked up a watermelon and some bananas.  I’ll also buy apples, oranges at times.   The meyer’s lemons are good too! (Very simple watermelon water recipe coming next week)

Aldi bonus!

Dessert hummus:  Trader Joe’s and Aldi are owned by the same company so I figured it would be OK to add this hummus to the mix.   This is a dessert hummus.  Aldi actually had two flavors, brownie batter and the one you see here, vanilla bean.

The taste is just OK. I’m not thrilled about it but I think I need to pair it with something different.  I think apples would go well with this hummus.
