Raising Cane's Cane's Sauce

I’m from Louisiana.  I graduated from Louisiana State University.  The original Raising Cane’s is outside the gates of LSU.  I’ve eaten my fairshare of Raising Cane’s, so much so that I feel like I’m a Cane’s expert.   I know I’m a Cane’s expert.   Whenever I go home to Baton Rouge, my first stop on my drive is on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi at the Raising Cane’s in Gulfport.   I said all that to say, this recipe gives me pause.

When I first whipped it up and tasted it I was immediately turned off.  My thought was, there’s no way the author of this book thought this recipe is anything like Raising Cane’s.  I decided to give it the 20 minutes as outlined in the directions and try it again.  I again was turned off.  My initial plan was to make the chicken fingers and the sauce but after the sauce turned out to be a dud I totally changed my plans.

But then something changed

I covered the sauce and went about life.  I revisited it after a few days and it was finally started to taste like something I know and love.   It was finally starting to resemble Raising Cane’s Cane’s Sauce.  Even though this is true it still wasn’t my beloved sauce.

I tried the sauce again after a week and it has certainly changed my mind from the initial taste but I’m not saying it’s an exact match.  If you’ve never tried Raising Cane’s and you’ve heard the hype then give it a try because it does come close.   OR if you live far away from a location as do I, then this will give you a taste of what you’ve been missing.

I still don’t plan to cook the chicken fingers.   I’ve wavered back and forth on this and I’ve settled on leaving well enough alone.

What I would do differently

Let the sauce sit for a week.  I know it’s difficult to plan a meal that far ahead in advance but I think that will give you the best and closest flavor of the real Raising Cane’s Cane’s Sauce.
